Shed Carport

This is an ongoing, personal project. We had a 10x20 shed at our other property that wasn't being utilized and needed a new roof. I had the idea to move it home and build lean-to roofs off each side for a carport and storage for my truck, mower, and tools (and the endless piles of junk we can never seem to get rid of 🙂 ). The back lot is only about 50ft by 75ft, so there wasn't really a practical way to build a separate garage/shop and also have the shed on the property. The lot was heavily grown up and had a large burn pile that I had to remove, then rented a skid steer to move dirt and add gravel. Once the shed was delivered, I began framing up the carports. Building off the side of a shed took some creative engineering, but I came up with a storage solution. 2x8 ledger boards were fastened to the shed's rafters with 4" structural screws and 3" framing nails. Due to the length of my truck, I decided to extend the length of the shed roof by 4', to protect it from wind-driven rain and hail. The carport is a little over 13 ft wide from the shed wall to the 4x6 posts, and the storage is a little less than 9ft wide. This was all built myself without any help, so it was a bit challenging. But it is a useful way to make use of an existing structure in a limited amount of property. There are several finishing touches still to come (as free time allows), including finishing up the metal roof trim pieces, building barn-style doors, and possibly addling a large sliding door to the rear of the storage section.
